Wedding cake is a central element of most wedding receptions. A beautiful wedding cake can make a huge impact on the overall elegance of the reception. Unfortunately, wedding cakes can be among the most important accessories of your wedding reception.
You should have a budget for your wedding cake and stick to it. It is much better to start looking for your cake after you have set you budget. The most expensive part of a cake is the decoration. Icing – using a coating of royal icing – is the traditional way of covering a wedding cake. If yours is to be a classical, traditional wedding, you may find an icing wedding cake best suited to your needs.
However, please note that the same cakes can be created and covered using either icing or chocolate. It is entirely your choice whether an icing covering or chocolate covering better suits the theme of your wedding. The only practical difference is that the surface of an icing wedding cake is likely to be smoother and softer than an equivalent cake covered with chocolate.

I bought a professionally made, three-tier wedding cake for my son’s wedding in August 2008 and this cost me £296.00 [$419.53]. Apart from the fact that it was beautifully iced and decorated, the cake was delicious – or should I say cakes: the top tier was made as a walnut cake as the bride’s request; the middle layer was rich chocolate, requested by the groom; the bottom layer was a delightfully moist and rich fruit cake for the majority of the guests, with enough to send out to those who were unable to attend the ceremony.
